Genuine UK PG controllers are more expensive, while counterfeit Chinese controllers are cheaper (commonly found on Taobao). Merchants profit from the price difference and sell wheelchairs at low prices, using modified, inferior controllers, endangering user safety. Genuine UK PG controllers are characterized by: fast response, stable current and control, and a durable and robust design; in contrast, the quality of inferior Chinese controllers is questionable.

The controller is one of the most important parts of an electric wheelchair, as it is the central brain of the electric wheelchair, controlling the wheelchair's on/off function, forward/backward movement and direction, battery control, and monitoring. A programming error or malfunction could put the user's life at risk. Genuine original controllers are not only flexible, but more importantly, safe and stable.

PG is the industry leader in electric wheelchair controllers. Many controllers are modeled after PG, even sharing similar exterior shapes, but their response and durability vary greatly. Methods to identify them are provided below.

To differentiate controllers, when purchasing a wheelchair, pay attention to whether the indicator lights on the controller are clear, the printing is sharp, the orange speed control button is orange and not yellow/pink, and if it has an orange ( ) bracket-shaped print, and whether the operation response is immediate and stable. Of course, the best way to differentiate them is through actual trial and comparison.

Operational Feel:
Genuine PG controllers offer a smoother experience, with a Soft Start function that provides gentle and naturally flexible control;
Inferior Chinese versions have a "jerky" feel, with stops and starts, especially cheaper controllers which are not responsive enough.

Controllers can still be identified by eye or immediately. However, if the battery or motor is replaced, it is not easy to identify them. Do not be tempted by small savings or seek technicians to modify electric wheelchairs. It is recommended to try out electric wheelchairs before purchasing, especially on slopes, and choose a company that offers longer warranty coverage.
